Last year, Chevrolet was the first manufacturer to announce that it will utilize Apple’s Siri Eyes Free feature. Now American Honda announced it will start integrating the new technology.

Later this year, the 2013 Honda Accord and Acura RDX and ILX models will be the first models to sport the Eyes Free feature, which will be a dealer-installed option. The revolutionary feature will allow iPhone users running iOS 6 to have Siri perform many different tasks, without taking their eyes off the road or hands off the wheel. It will even keep the iPhone’s screen from lighting up.

“iPhone has become so integral to people’s lives that they continue to use them in their vehicles, ” said Vicki Poponi, assistant vice president of automobile product planning for American Honda in the company’s official press release. “Offering Honda and Acura owners Siri and its Eyes Free mode via Bluetooth is an incredible opportunity to provide next-generation connectivity and meet our customer’s ever-changing needs.”

Honda already has a Bluetooth® HandsFreeLink® connectivity feature and has reengineered its software to seamlessly integrate Eyes Free mode into via the onboard microphone and speakers.

Of course, the feature will only work on devices with Siri, such as the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPad (3rd and 4th generations), iPad mini and iPod touch (5th generation), and requires Internet access. But it will still cast a wide net of consumers.
