The “OK Go” Ad
This category really doesn’t tell us too much about humanity in 2016, but since nobody really makes an ad quite like this group, I would be remiss to have a “Top Ads” list without including it. With that being said, it really is a work of art. Following their trademark “single take” formula, the group relied on tight timing and near perfect execution to provide Morton’s Salt with one of the best ads this year. The real kicker? It’s nearly impossible to tell it’s an ad in the first place. Aside from the exploding salt containers in the opening shot (which I didn’t even take stock of until my third or fourth viewing) and the signature yellow umbrella at the end, a first time viewer wouldn’t realize they’re viewing an ad until the final card.
