The first-generation 2015 Acura TLX debuted at the 2014 New York International Auto Show, designed as a mid-size performance luxury sedan to replace the TL and TSX sedan models. Now, we look forward to the bold and aggressive next-gen 2018 Acura TLX at the 2017 New York International Auto Show.
The original TLX offered two powertrains – a 2.4-liter 16-valve, direct-injected i-VTEC® 4-cylinder engine with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission with torque converter; and a 3.5-liter 24-valve direct-injected i-VTEC V-6 mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission. The TLX embraced industry-leading safety and driver-assistive technology; the 2017 model merited the NHTSA 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score with the AcuraWatch safety suite. The 2016 TLX received the Premium Midsize Car distinction at the 2016 Consumer Guide® Automotive Best Buy Awards as well as a Kelley Blue Book Top Luxury Brand for low Cost of Ownership” award. In terms of accolades, the redesigned 2018 TLX will have a lot to live up to.
Promising thrilling performance with supercar DNA, the 2018 TLX sedan was designed by the Acura Design Studio in Torrance, California. and will continue to be produced at the company’s plant in Marysville, Ohio with domestic and globally sourced parts.
The 2018 TLX will take its cues from the Acura Precision concept that debuted last year, including the new signature diamond pentagon grille featured in the shadowy teaser images. The TLX refresh also includes new premium features and technology enhancements that place the TLX among the most technologically advanced and well-equipped cars in the mid-size luxury sedan segment.
“The 2018 TLX will receive new styling elements that ratchet up its emotion and reflect Acura’s focus on Precision Crafted Performance,” said Jon Ikeda, Acura vice president and general manager, in a press release, “Acura customers embraced the MDX when we raised its game with bold, new styling, and we’re pumped to show how we’re elevating the TLX experience.”
