When you’re a 31-time recipient of Car and Driver’s 10Best award, it’s hard not to draw attention, and even though the all new 2018 Accord was only just teased, it was enough to get the automotive industry humming with excitement.
On June 19, Honda officially released a concept sketch of the new Accord, which promises a dramatic new styling direction, signified by new proportions and an aggressive stance. Set to be officially revealed on July 14th at 11 a.m. in Detroit, the new 10th generation Accord touts a bevy of new features and components, including two new direct-injected and turbocharged engines, three high-performing, two-motor hybrid powertrains, and the choice between a CVT, 6-speed manual transmission, or a new Honda-developed 10-speed automatic transmission. Honda will use the event to elaborate on the Accord’s new design, technology, and performance, and can be viewed online via YouTube Livestream at honda.us/2018AccordReveal.
In addition to the Accord, the 2018 Fit was revealed mid-June and comes with fresh new styling, a new Sport trim, and the inclusion of Honda Sensing, Honda’s signature suite of advanced safety features. Serving as the third generation Fit’s first update since its release in 2014, consumers can expect a sporty new exterior, complimented by the choice of two new color palettes, as well as improvements to fuel efficiency, interior space, and affordability. While a launch date and price have yet to be set, consumers can expect more information to come later this summer.
While either vehicle mentioned above is not currently available for consumer purchase, the Civic Type-R, the first of its kind to be sold in the U.S., officially hit showroom floors on June 13, starting at an MSRP of $33,900. Featuring a short throw 6-speed manual transmission, a 306 horsepower i-VTEC® engine, and a new and improved Adaptive Damper System, the Type-R promises power and performance never before seen in Honda’s Civic model, with a pre-production version of the car setting the FWD record lap time at Germany’s historic Nürburgring Nordschleife.
