Following the successful debut of the all-new 2019 RDX Acura prototype at the 2018 North American International Auto Show, Acura announced the model’s official reveal, in production form, for later this month.
The 2019 RDX represents a bold direction for Acura, fully embodying the impactful introduction of the Acura Precision Concept in 2016.
The reveal will live stream on March 28 at 12:15 p.m. ET on Facebook.
Substantive Redesign
Acura has focused on aesthetic innovation and performance excellence in the 2019 RDX, which represents a complete redesign compared to previous RDX models. Styled like a sport SUV, the model features a spacious and comfortable cabin and striking design elements that follow the Acura Precision Concept.
The Acura Precision Concept first debuted in 2016 and features bold styling, sleek surfaces and seamless transitions from the interior to the exterior of the vehicle. The 2019 RDX is the flagship Precision Concept Acura model, the first to completely integrate those design innovations, including a dynamic and innovative interior.
Acura’s California design studio in Los Angeles spearheaded the remake of the 2019 RDX. The team utilized the Precision Concept to create a low and wide five-passenger SUV, maximizing internal comfort, legroom and cargo space with an athletic and modern exterior.
Sport Styling
The 2019 RDX has the “A-Spec” treatment, focused on overall sport styling. Its exterior lighting features Acura Jewel Eye™ headlights and LED technology. The modern and luxurious interior features ventilated and heated seats in the front, with appealing decor throughout the cabin. Napa leather, brushed aluminum, and Olive Ash wood make the 2019 RDX interior stylish and comfortable.
Innovative Technology
Inside the cabin, drivers have access to the True Touchpad Interface™ placed closer to the line of sight, adding to convenience and safety while driving. Its intuitive, user-friendly design is a vast improvement over previous touchpads that were somewhat cumbersome to use. The new natural language system puts the 2019 RDX on the leading edge of voice-recognition technology, and the Acura ELS Studio 3D System makes for a captivating audio experience throughout the cabin.
Breathtaking Performance
The new model is developed for style, safety, and performance. The 2019 RDX brings back the Acura Super-Handling All Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®) to the line, adding to smooth handling. The 2.0-liter DOHC VTEC® Turbo engine, an all-new innovation and 10-speed automatic transmission that is first in the segment make the 2019 RDX a streamlined and powerful flagship for the Acura brand. In addition, all 2019 RDX models feature the AcuraWatch™ standard, keeping drivers and passengers safe on the road.
American-Made, American-Conceived
In addition to tapping the design skills of Acura’s Los Angeles studio, the RDX is produced in America using many U.S.-made parts. Developed by Raymond, Ohio engineers, the new model is produced at the East Liberty, Ohio plant, and the VTEC turbo engine is made in nearby Anna, Ohio. The transmission is made in Tallapoosa, Georgia. The 2019 Acura RDX is the first to be developed by a U.S. research and development team.
