With the release of Hyperlapse from Instagram early this week, advertisers and businesses were quickly coming up with ways to use the platform for promotion. This, obviously, is nothing new as social media continues its growth as an advertising medium.
However, certain social platforms don’t work very well for certain businesses or industries in general. Whether it’s the product, service or the intended audience, it’s likely that using every platform will be unnecessary.
This is certainly not the case for the automotive industry and Hyperlapse, which allows users to quickly capture high-quality time lapse videos. It doesn’t matter if you’re a manufacturer, a dealership or even a car wash; if your business deals mainly with cars, you can put the new app to great use. Below you’ll find four good reasons why.
1. More Content
Unlike other industries, the automotive industry can practically be showcased on any social platform. While Hyperlapse is tied to two of the most commonly used platforms by the industry (Instagram and Facebook), it allows for a new avenue of content creation. By now, it’s common knowledge that “content is king,” so having a new way to provide it is a good thing.
2. Scenic Virtual Test Drives
Time lapse videos are perfect for long drives, and now it’s very easy to put one together. For manufacturers, this is a new and improved way of putting your customers behind the wheel. You’re now able to provide more of a sample of what your vehicle can do – in its intended environment – in a shorter time span. Anything from a full off-road expedition to a few laps around the racetrack can now be experienced in just a couple of minutes versus before when time-lapse videos could be costly and time-consuming to produce.
3. Show Off Services
Whether it’s the service department of a car dealer or just a standalone car washyou can now show potential customers what your services are all about. The time lapse will not only capture a car going from dirty to fully detailed, it can also show just how much work goes into what your company does. For instance, if not many people know your typical oil change also includes window washing, vacuuming and topping off other fluids, this would be a good way to show all the work and care that is put into every customer’s car.
4. Behind-The-Scenes Peeks
It’s not a new thing to show customers the inner workings of your business via social media, but as with the other reasons above, Hyperlapse’s capabilities allow you to take it to a whole new level. For example, if you’re a manufacturer, instead of posting a picture of the assembly line employee of the month, show the public all the work he or she does in a day. You can also show the amount of setup work it takes to film a brief 30-second commercial.
There are so many possibilities for Hyperlapse across the auto industry. There is no doubt some of the tactics above will soon be put to use. However, it will be interesting to see what other ways automotive businesses will use the medium to stand out.
