New vehicle sales among all brands in the U.S. increased by 10 percent in June compared to the previous year. Leading the charge was a multitude of brands posting double-digit growth, including Nissan, which set a June U.S. sales record of 95,010 units.

Despite a 13 percent slide from Infiniti, Nissan A.G.’s overall 13 percent increase came thanks to the Nissan brand’s record-setting month, which saw a growth of 16 percent from June 2012. Honda and Toyota each saw a 10 percent growth drops in their secondary brands – 10 percent at Acura and 25 percent at Scion, respectively.

Ford Motor Co. was the only company from Detroit’s Big Three to see double-digit sales increases in June, with a 14 percent rise thanks to the sale of 234,917 total units. General Motors and Chrysler Group saw sales increases of 7 percent and 8 percent, respectively. The Big Three’s sales increases were fueled by an increase in pick-up truck sales. Additionally, Chrysler Group saw all of its brands increase in sales in its 39th consecutive month of sales increases.

Subaru continues its long streak of impressive sales increases with a 42 percent increase in June. Subaru had the highest percentage growth of any manufacturer and sold over 1,500 vehicles in June. For the first six months of 2013, the brand has seen a 25 percent sales increase compared to the first six months of 2012.

BMW Group and Jaguar Land Rover were the two luxury auto groups to see double-digit sales increases, with 25 percent and 10 percent, respectively. Mazda was one of the few surprises on the double-digit increase list. The brand’s sales rose 13 percent, primarily due to strong demand for the redesigned Mazda 6.

While Volkswagen Group’s sales remained steady with a 1 percent increase over last year, the VW brand saw a sales decrease of 3 percent – marking the brand’s third consecutive month in a sales skid, albeit a minor one. In those three months, VW has dropped just 1 percent overall.

With half the year in the books, the U.S. auto industry has sold a total of 7,542,346 new vehicles in the first six months of 2013. This figure is a respectable 8 percent increase compared to the first six months of 2012.

The monthly sales report tallies the total number of vehicles in the previous calendar month. Percentage increases or decreases are the difference between the monthly numbers in 2013 compared with the same month in 2012.
