In a restyle being referred to as “transformational,” the 2018 RLX is set to debut during the prestigious Monterey Automotive Week, August 15-19 on the Monterey Peninsula. The overall goal of the redesign, according to Acura Vice President and General Manager Jon Ikeda, was “creating road presence and styling that better reflect underlying performance capabilities of the vehicle,” and as Acura’s best-performing sedan to date, the 2018 RLX spares no expense when it comes to delivering power, luxury, and performance unlike any of its contemporaries.
With a new look punctuated by Acura’s signature diamond pentagon grill, combined with a few nods to the NSX, the new RLX aims to deliver a top-of-the-line luxury sports sedan experience unparalleled in today’s market. Sport Hybrid Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive™, technology shared with the NSX, blends seamlessly with the 377-horsepower V-6 engine, which features three electric motors in addition to Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ for instant acceleration and dynamic handling. The Sport Hybrid’s 310-horsepower variant will come included with a new 10-speed Automatic Transmission, creating a more sophisticated driving experience than other vehicles in the segment.
A host of new features and tech compliment the impressive performance of the RLX, including Traffic Jam Assist, an Acura first. Through the implementation of Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow, Traffic Jam Assist is able to determine an appropriate following distance in relation to the car in front of it, while simultaneously maintaining lane precision and consistency. Once placed in tandem with the other driver assistive technologies included in AcuraWatch™, like Road Departure Mitigation, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Keep Assist, the new RLX helps to reduce driver stress and anxiety like never before.
As if class-leading space and comfort weren’t enough, the new RLX ups the ante on stylized luxury as well, offering standard features that include Surround View Camera, ventilated and heated front seats, a premium Krell Audio System, and more. Additionally, the RLX will feature three new exterior colors, two new premium paint offerings (Brilliant Red Metallic and Majestic Black Pearl), and a new Espresso interior option, providing a sophisticated compliment to the high contrast piping and stitching present throughout the cabin of the RLX.
The 2018 Acura RLX will be featured at multiple events throughout Monterey Automotive Week including the Carmel-By-The Sea Concours on the Avenue on Tuesday, August 15 and The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering, on Friday, August 18. While no exact sale date has been determined, expect to see the new 2018 RLX in dealerships in November of this year.
